EV’s new DC‑One Processor keeps it simple at UK conference center

26 March 2009
Electro-Voice’s new DC-One two-in-six-out processor, designed to maximize performance from a small to mid-sized EV loudspeaker system, has made its debut in a UK installation.

Derbyshire Hall is a 400-seat venue in the Hayes Conference Centre, located just outside Derby. Owned and operated by registered charity the Christian Conference Trust, Hayes Conference Centre is the Trust’s flagship venue for providing quality, affordable conference facilities for Christian organizations.

“There are lots of controllers around but the DC‑One keeps us in the EV family.”

Having provided AV solutions for two other venues belonging to the Christian Conference Trust, installation specialists Acoustic Arrangements were particularly pleased to win the contract for this Hall. “As this is their premier venue, it demanded the highest specification for the sound system, capable of handling performances by prominent worship bands as well as speech requirements,“ says AA’s Glyn Chapman.

Having selected Electro-Voice’s ZX Series to provide the main loudspeakers - ZX3s at the front, and ZX1s as rear-fills two-thirds of the way down the hall - Acoustic Arrangements used EV’s new DC-One signal processor to control all the loudspeaker and amplifier configurations. The elegant sound reinforcement system is powered by CP1200 and CP2200 amplifiers.

“There are lots of controllers around but the DC-One keeps us in the EV family. It is very simple to exploit its digital horsepower and high-end audio performance. It can be easily operated via the front panel, and it comes with free PC-Editor software so set-up can be done on a laptop using a USB link.“

“The ZX loudspeakers are very well-rated for their size,“ confirms Glyn Chapman, “and visually, they work exceptionally well. Because the original AV system in the hall didn’t really match the Trust’s requirements, this installation and in particular the EV cabinets were under pressure to deliver, and they absolutely did - right on the nail!“

Acoustic Arrangements engineers liaised with John Ellis from Shuttlesound in the UK, who welcomed the DC-One in its first permanent installation - “this is such a versatile unit and great value, and it is just as relevant for a conference center as for a touring company on the road. It’s great to see Electro-Voice in The Hayes, which is one of the longest-established conference centers for religious and charity groups. I remember going to a Youth Club conference there when I was in my teens! The PA was a 100V line system with ancient column speakers, so it’s great to see an up-to-date, integrated AV and PA system in their new hall.“

Based on a powerful SHARC processor, the DC-One is 100 percent compatible with all settings from other Electro-Voice signal processors, including the Dx38. Its unique front-panel-access control allows users to select a personal library of accessible presets (out of 60 factory and 20 user presets). In addition, the user can determine which individual parameters in each preset are locked (i.e. factory predefined output parameters) or editable (i.e. master EQ or delay settings).

The DC-One has a 1RU 19-inch chassis that is deep enough to match typical amplifier depths, a front panel USB connector for the PC-Editor, and accepts either analogue or digital (AES-EBU) input signals; a six-dB input pad is also available. The RS232 on the rear also provides eight contact closures for preset changes, or allows two units to be linked for larger systems. The PC-Editor software, as well as firmware updates allowing additional functions will be available on www.electrovoice.com.
